Snapshot in Time: Family visiting me in London

London
October 2005

I studied abroad in London the fall of my Junior Semester. It was amazing. I loved every moment of it. During my fall break, my mom, dad, Stine and the Kroner family came to visit. We did all the tourist-y things in London, and even took the EuroStar to Paris for the day.

For some reason, this is one of my favorite photos from their visit. Maybe because my dad and I didn't know it was being taken, and it was at the Tower of London.

Tower of London
We first visited the Tower of London on a rainy day in the late afternoon. We got there later than planned because we stayed too long at Madame Tussauds (boring, I wouldn't go back). Unfortunately for us, they canceled the last Beefeater Tour because of the rain. Luckily, we were able to talk the ticket desk into giving us return tickets for the next day so we could go on one of the tours. The Tower of London was one of my favorite things to see in London. There is just so much history there!

Memory 1:
The Beefeater Tour Guide teasing me about my eyebrow ring on the tour of the Tower of London. Something about it being a Medieval torture device.

Memory 2:
Watching the Military Parade in Trafalgar Square with my dad, and then having lunch at a cute pub we stumbled across. I can't remember where everyone else was though, maybe that's when they went to the Royal Mews.

Memory 3:
Venturing to Hampton Court with my family the day before the Kroner's joined us. It's a royal palace made famous by the court of King Henry VIII. On the way back we found a pub to eat at, but had to dine out on the back patio because Christine was with. It was actually quite charming.

Memory 4:
Taking a boat along the Thames at sunset with a gorgeous sunset/night view of Tower Bridge and then the Houses of Parliament.

Here's some more of my favorite photos:

The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben as viewed from a boat on the Thames.
Our favorite pub conveniently located next door to our hotel.
Adam's never been to London, so we're starting to plan a trip there for next year after the Olympics. So excited! I love London. It's my favorite city in the world. I can't wait to show him around and revisit some of my favorite places. Plus there's a few places I missed when I was there the first time that I would still like to see like the London Aquarium. We hope to make it to Scotland and Ireland as well.

Tuesday's theme would probably more appropriately be called "Travel Tuesday" since all I seem to post about is memories from places I've been. Oh well, I guess I would run out of those anyway. I promise next week I'll break out of the year 2005. I didn't realize the last 3 "Snapshot in Time" posts were from the same year.
