Bright Eyes Concert

Last night Adam and I went to the Bright Eyes concert at First Ave. The Beatles and Bright Eyes are my favorite bands, and obviously I will never get to see The Beatles in concert. Whenever Bright Eyes is in town, I really want to go. The first time I saw them was in 2005 with Laura when they played at First Ave with The Faint in support of Digital Ash in a Digital Urn. It was awesome, and a very intimate show. The second time I saw them I went by myself to see them at the State Theater for the Cassadaga album. It was much different than the 2005 show, but still awesome. The audience was seated like they were watching a play. There was a huge band on stage, almost like an orchestra, and they all wore white. It seemed a little cultish, but it was still a great show.

The concert last night was just amazing. They played for 2 hours, 24 songs, 8 of them from their new album, The People's Key. The rest were a nice mix from their previous albums.

Setlist: (from the Star Tribune website with a few song title edits by me)
Firewall / Take It Easy (Love Nothing) / Haile Selassie / Jejune Stars / Four Winds / Cleanse Song / Something Vague / Trees Get Wheeled Away / Shell Games / Approximate Sunlight / Arc of Time (Time Code) / Falling Out of Love at This Volume / Going for Gold / Beginner's Mind / Cartoon Blues / Hot Knives / A Machine Spiritual (in The People's Key) / Old Soul Song (For the New World Order) / The Calendar Hung Itself / First Day of My Life
ENCORE: Gold Mine Gutted / Lover I Don't Have to Love / Road to Joy / One for You, One for Me

Highlights:
I basically loved every moment of the concert, but these were my favorite parts.
- "Jejune Stars" - Someone in the audience near the front had an umbrella they opened up and danced around at the "umbrella" parts. It was amusing.
- "Cleanse Song" - My favorite song from Cassadaga, it's about new beginnings. Hearing it live gave me chills.
- "Something Vague" and "The Calendar Hung Itself" - I listened to Fevers and Mirrors every night to go to sleep when I was in London for a semester. I adore all the songs on it.
- "First Day of My Life" - Conor played it solo on his guitar. He said he doesn't usually play it on tour. I'm so glad he did though because it's one of my favorites and the only Bright Eyes song Adam really knows since I insisted it be played at our wedding dance (would have been our first dance if I would have had my way!) and is in our wedding video
- "Gold Mine Gutted" - My favorite from Digital Ash
- "Lover I Don't Have to Love" - First song I ever heard by Bright Eyes. It made me love them.

Adam didn't have the best time because he doesn't really know the music or particularly like Bright Eyes. And the show went until midnight and he had to get up this morning at 5:30 for work, so it was a really late night for him. I'm so thankful he offered to come with though so I could go. I have the best husband.

Some photos from the show taken with my Cybershot. Already I was thinking how much better the photos would have been with the Canon.
Oh how I love Bright Eyes
