Unfortunately for me, I had headache issues all weekend. The ice pack was my best friend. But I was determined not to let it mess up our weekend plans too much.
Adam enjoyed fishing all Friday afternoon with his work buddy. After I got home, I layed in bed with my trusty ice pack. When Adam got home, he took care of me like a good husband. When I was feeling a little better, we watched a bunch of episodes of
The Killing. It's a good show, but did they really need to drag out one murder case out over two seasons? I'm glad we're watching it all at once, otherwise I probably would not have had the patience for it.
On Saturday, we had planned to go fishing, but the rainy weather combined with my headache resulted in us just staying home and watching more of
The Killing.
That evening, we had a dinner and movie date. We went to Axel's in Roseville. The food was good, the service was not. I had walleye and Adam had tenderloin medallions. I had made the dinner reservation for pretty early, so we had time to kill before the 7:40 movie. We swung by Target to get some headache meds for me, and while there, I also found a black raincoat for our London/Paris/Ireland adventure. 17 days from today!
We also went to DSW where I got a cute pair of heels and Adam got some new black dress shoes for work.
The movie we went to was
The Bourne Legacy
. It was quite action packed and enjoyable. It went by really quickly and you know I have attention span issues. I think I liked it even better than the other Bourne movies because I'm not really a fan of Matt Damon. It was a fun date night though!
Sunday was Minnesota State Fair day!
Of course I had a headache, but I made the best of it. We took the shuttle from St. Paul College, which mostly worked well. It was there when we got to the Park and Ride lot, and left soon after. On the way back though, we waited, in the bus, for 35 minutes for the missing bus driver to reappear before we finally left. Then sat in the parking lot trying to get out for another 15 minutes. Super irritating.
Otherwise, we had a great time at the fair. We were there from 10-3, which was the perfect amount of time. I didn't eat as much as I wanted to, but I never do.
I was all excited to bring the new camera with since it's little and really easy to carry around. Then, I realized that I had left the 50mm lens on it from last time. With the 50, you have to be really far away to get a lot in the frame, so it's not exactly the ideal lens to have as the only one with. Frustrating!
The first stop was for a Fudge Puppy - a belgian waffle strip on a stick, covered in chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles. The perfect breakfast!
Adam's first was a Pronto Pup. He got the big one, the Papa Pup. It was quite large, but it
is his favorite.
Then we wandered for a bit and ended up at the Miracle of Life Barn, my favorite. Adam hates seeing the animals, so we compromise and it's the only animal barn we do. I love seeing all the babies.
Right across the street, was the poutine stand. We have loved poutine (fries covered in fresh cheese curds and gravy) ever since our honeymoon in Quebec. This version was okay. The gravy is probably the most important part, and this gravy needed help. It kind of reminded me of the poutine I got at A&W in Sparwood, BC.
Adam was supposed to take a photo of me with the poutine, but it's just a really close up of me thanks to the stupid lens I brought with. So I'm not including it. Sorry. Here's one of the booth-
Then we went over to the DNR cabin. We listened to a talk about the fish in the DNR pond, while Adam pointed out the different types to me.
We strolled through the Grandstand (too hot + lots of junk for sale), and then found me some bacon ice cream. It was maple ice cream with chunks of bacon in it. It was okay. Not great. The bacon kind of tasted like Bacon Bits. Not impressed. The maple part was good though.
Back over by the food building, Adam found his other favorite State Fair food - Axel's deep fried slider on a stick. At $3.50, it's a good deal for the fair! I'm surprised he didn't get two!
Up next was the Ag/Hort building. I always like to see the giant pumpkins. This was the best I could do for a photo with my limited lens.
I also always like to check out the Crop Art. The detail just amazes me. I think it's fascinating.
Adam is not impressed by it. He waited outside for me and enjoyed a nice cold beer.
Then we took some self-portrait style photos. Adam was most cooperative. Not.
At 12:15, we headed over to the Education Building to wait for the St. Thomas bags. Yeah. I do that. But I went there. What are all these other people's excuse? Oh, the allure of free stuff.
After that, we got Walleye Cakes at Giggles. There were two, so it was the perfect size to split.
Then we walked all over Machine Hill, spending time to look at the Buick GMC and Toro displays.
It was really starting to heat up by that point, so I got some Hawaiian Shaved Ice. Half Mango. Half Margarita. It was awesome.
Adam needed refreshment too, so he got a beer.
Then we split Buffalo Chips with cheese. Not bad.
While we sat and enjoyed the buffalo chips, my headache came back in full force. And I started feeling dizzy and nauseous. It was time to go.
But first, we had to stop by the Dairy Barn so I could see the butter sculptures, and Adam could get his traditional chocolate malt.
This one's hair was like a scarf.
Then we sat in the bus forever, as I already mentioned. Ugh. But it had A/C so it was much better than standing outside waiting for a bus...
So what didn't I eat that I wanted to?

Maybe next year!
Back at home, we finished the last season (there was only 2) of
The Killing. The ending was really sad, and I'm bummed AMC cancelled the show. At least they wrapped almost everything up first though.
It really was a nice weekend with Adam though despite my stupid head. And Chester too of course. He loved being allowed to sleep in bed with us all weekend! He's so spoiled... We sure love the little guy!
