Fourth of July: Fishing in the heat

Our Fourth of July consisted of sleeping in, sweating, fishing, sweating, napping, eating, sweating and watching fireworks.

101°F? Perfect! Let's go fishing for 4 hours.
Said no one. Ever.
Except us.

Ever determined to not let the freakishly hot weather get in our way, we went fishing all afternoon. When we got hot, we drank water and I drank my awesome frozen Peach Daiquiri in a bag. This is a new favorite. I declared that we must buy more and take them with every time we go out on the boat. There are lots of flavors to try too... yum...

I liked our first spot because it was shallow and the water was really clear. I got a big kick out of watching all the fish swarming my hook + worm.

When we couldn't stand it anymore, we went swimming. 

 Then we had our picnic lunch, relaxed, and fished some more.

I caught 10 fish total including 1 bass. 3 of the fish I caught when I was just practicing casting and didn't even have a worm on the hook. Haha! Adam caught 2 bass with his top water frog.

We had fun, but the heat was so exhausting. I took a glorious nap when we got home.

Dinner everyday this week has been grilled in an effort to not heat up our house any further. So last night we had a random assortment of grilled foods - hot dogs, cheesy potatoes, and cheese stuffed jalapenos. All were good except the jalapenos which just didn't do much for us.

We ended the night by watching the fireworks in downtown from Mounds Park. Apparently the whole city had the same idea (and it's not even a very good view because you're so far away!) because the place was packed! We drove because of the heat, and ended up parking almost as far away as if we had walked from home. It was crazy. We made a beeline to get out of there and get home. Lucky we did because there was wall to wall traffic on our street for about an hour after the fireworks were done.



The constant fireworks going off all day and night were annoying. Lucky for us, Chester doesn't get too freaked out by the noise. At first all the loud booms made him bark, but after a bit he got used to it and didn't even seem to notice.

It was a fun fourth, but hopefully, next year, we'll get more than one day off for it! Today felt like Monday, which was rough. Real rough.
