With the impending freeze last evening, I took a bunch of photos of our garden on Tuesday night. We covered a lot of it up with sheets and towels, so hopefully the tomatoes, tomatillos and peppers made it. There were so many not nearly ready. This has been kind of a bummer year for gardens!
That being said, our garden did pretty well considering. I think the cages Adam and his dad put together this spring really helped.
Our tomato plants were huge even if they didn't produce much. The cherry tomato plant was the best by far. Good thing, because it's our favorite to snack on!

We tried tomatillos for the first time this year and they grew like crazy. The stems are thick like saplings and they kind of took over the garden. We didn't know what to expect, so we'll give them a lot more room next year. I love tomatillos though, so they were fun to grow. Can you believe we started them as seeds?!

| Here you can see the cages Adam and his dad constructed. They work really well to support the plants! |

The tomatillo fruit grows inside the husk. When it's done, the husk opens at the bottom
because the fruit breaks through. |
 |
| Tomatillos look like little green tomatoes when you take them out of the husk. |

The cucumbers did pretty well. We got more than enough cucumbers for us. Probably like 15 or so?
Our peppers were slow to take off, but the jalepenos produced a lot.
The pretty in purple still aren't done but have a lot of peppers on them. I just like them because they're so pretty as they grow. We started these from seeds as well.

| They're really small peppers, but very pretty. |
The habenero and green peppers were kind of a fail. We got about 2 green peppers from all the plants we had.
 |
| Our second green pepper of the year. Pathetic. |
We haven't had any habeneros ready yet. The only plant that survived was the one I had in the planter. The rest disappeared from the garden.

For herbs, the basil did great, and the dill did not. We had enough for our small use though.
The green beans did great for how late I planted them (late June I think?). I got 2.5 good harvests out of them.
And since it is Naughty Puppy Thursday, here's a few of Chester I took in between photographing the plants. He loves to be outside with me. When I say, "Let's check on our garden" after our walk, he makes a beeline for the backyard instead of the back steps.
If I go outside without him, he sits by the back door and waits for me, so I usually just take him with. He probably likes to be outside so he can explore and eat grass. Naughty little thing.
