It was a hard weekend for us as we were in Duluth for the Memorial Service of Adam's Grandpa Bob. He passed away when we were on our trip.
Saturday was a sad day, but also a celebration of his long well-lived life. He had a great sense of humor, and we enjoyed telling and hearing stories about him. One of my favorites was of a bumper sticker he had custom made that said "Driver is a Ph.D - Pot Hole Dodger." When we were going through his things on Sunday, we found a stack of them and each took one.
We are so fortunate that his health allowed him to celebrate our wedding with us last year. It meant a lot to have him part of the celebrations.

I know losing grandparents is a part of getting older and that people can't live forever, but it still sucks. When I was younger, I thought it wouldn't be as hard the older I got. But I don't think being older makes it any easier to go through.
I'm also glad that we were able to work out a place for Chester to go. We debated whether to bring him with, leave him home alone on Saturday and I would just go to Duluth for the service and come right back, or take him down to my parents. I'm glad we decided on having him stay with my parents and sister. Thursday night we met my mom and sister in Rochester to drop off Chester. Last night, we picked him up from my dad in Rochester. It was so nice that they were able to watch him and willing to meet us halfway so we didn't have to worry about him and he wouldn't be alone for extended periods of time. It was a lot of driving for us, but well worth it. I love our families.
