Weekend Recap Part 1: Twins Game

We decided to stay in town Friday night for the Twins-Brewers game at Target Field. The weather was great when we first got there, but as soon as we started walking around to get food, they brought out the rain tarp. My friend from La Crosse, Laura was also at the game, so we took advantage of the rain delay to go meet her on the upper level.

Oh hey Laura!

We chatted for an hour, and then decided to head down to our seats as it had stopped raining.

Rain delay

Skies are getting rather dark...

We were only there for a few minutes before they advised everyone to seek shelter. And for good reason too, once we were up in the concourse it started POURING and it was super windy too.

Cramped concourse hell - that's pouring rain in the background
We kept worrying they were going to postpone the game and mess up our weekend plans. Luckily, they finally announced that the game would begin at 9:10 after a 2 hour rain delay. It was still sprinkling when it started, but it soon cleared up and was a lovely night. It was a bit cool though. I was wishing I had brought my sweatshirt, but who would expect that on a day with a heat index of 100!

The game started out a bit rough with a Carlos Gomez solo home run in the first, but Liriano settled down and the Twins won quite handily 6-2. We even got to see a 3-run Jim Thome homer!

There was a fireworks show after the game. I've never seen the fireworks at Target Field so I was excited. But they were pretty lame. Mostly just rockets. I was definitely disappointed and thought the fireworks at Progressive Field and Kauffman Stadium were much better.
Building up anticipation only to be disappointed
This is pretty much what the fireworks show looked like... pretty lame.
Between the rain delay and fireworks, we didn't get home until after 1 am. I'm pretty sure Chester hated us for being gone so long...

I will have to post more about the rest of the weekend tomorrow night as we're off to the Twins game tonight.
