The weekend began with the fam arriving around 4:30. They brought Chester back to us after his vacation with them while we were in Seattle. Chester went crazy when he saw us; he was so excited! He was pretty pissed off when we left less than an hour later to head to the Twins game. Thanks again to my fam for taking such great care of him so we could go on vacation!
We got to the ballpark around 6 or so, and split up to get food. Adam had a Polish and I had some nachos. The Twins played the Houston Astros who just switched this year from the National to the American league.
We had amazing seats behind home plate in Section 116, Rows 9 and 10.
We got really lucky and my favorite Twins player, Samuel Deduno was pitching. It wasn't his best game as he walked quite a few, but he kept the Twins in the game.
Our usher was a character and had our sections play along with the different games on the big screen. When it was time for the mascot races, he randomly handed out sheets to people. Adam got Wanda the Walleye. I thought it was fitting, but he was hoping for Skeeta.
The Twins tied up the game in the 8th, only to lose the tie in the top of he 9th, and then regain it in the bottom of the 9th. This meant extra innings. The Twins FINALLY won the game in the 13th inning with a final score of 4-3.
It was around 11:30 when the game finally ended. Of course we had to stay because there were fireworks after. But first we had to watch the Long Haul Bombers hit homeruns with softballs. They're on some Stadium Power Tour. Coincidentally, we had just seen them the previous Friday in Seattle, except it was before the game. Though that game also went 13 innings, with the Twins winning. Major deja vu.
The fireworks were pretty cool but didn't start until midnight which made for a very long night. We didn't get home until 1!
Since it was such a late night, we all slept in. My mom said she hasn't slept that late in years! At 11, we had brunch together at Meritage to celebrate my birthday (yes, really late). It was delicious.
For drinks, I had a Mimosa, while Mom, Dad and Adam all had Bloody Marys. They looked so good I almost wished I had gotten one.
To eat, I had vanilla french toast. It was okay. Adam, Mom and Christine each had a Croque Monsieur with frites. My mom shared some of hers with me. It was amazing! My dad had an omelet with breakfast potatoes. For dessert, Christine and I split a peanut butter with sea salt macaron. Then she had some kind of chocolate torte and I shared creme bruelee with the table.
Back at home, they gave me my birthday presents. Chester was very interested in helping!
I got some SmartWool socks,
a thing to arrange flowers in vases (note Chester's already moved on to opening the next present!),
some pillow shams from West Elm I really wanted,
and a fold-up travel cooler that Chester is so kindly modeling.
From my sister I got a thoughtful treat box that she put together of my favorite things. It had Garlic Cheese Bread chips, Spring Grove Soda, peach soda, Razzles, a chocolate orange and a Toblerone bar.
They headed out right after, so Adam, Chester and I spent he afternoon lounging. That's pretty much how we spent Sunday as well. It was really low key and wonderful. We just couldn't bring ourselves to leave him again after being away for a week and a half.
