Seattle Day 4: Deduno Pitches at Safeco

On Saturday, the game was at 1:10. I was pumped because my guy Samuel Deduno was the starting pitcher. I wanted to catch the Twins batting practice, so we got going early. We got really lucky with the rotation that we got to see Deduno pitch on both of the Twins roadtrips we went on.

We arrived at Safeco Field by 10:45 am, entered through The 'Pen, and enjoyed watching the Twins batting practice.

Once again, the Mariners didn't have bp. When batting practice ended around 11:30, we decided to explore the ballpark. We wandered up to the 300 level, and met a very nice usher who showed us around and gave us a few tips. The view from up there was pretty, but the roof made a big shadow on the field.

Back in the concourse, we walked over and checked out the retractable roof. It just slides over the field when it needs to be covered.

Then we found this cute little eating area with cool views of the Puget Sound and shipping docks.

Back on the main level, we decided to grab some food before the game. Adam had another Philly cheese-steak with a beer, and I tried the garlic fries. They were amazing! Not at all like the crappy ones they serve at Target Field. There was even freshly grated parmesan on them. We took our food over by the bullpen and found a spot to wait for Deduno to warm up.

We were done eating by the time he started warming up, but that was fine. I was so enthralled that I didn't take that many photos. It was such a neat experience.

The Bullpen Pitchers were goofy. They had some little ritual they did where it looked like they were sprinkling something on each other's heads -

We stayed and watched until he ran out onto the field for the game to start, then we made our way over to our seats. That day we were in Section 119, Row 18 off the grass. This section was on the first base side. Once again, the seats were great.

Around the 7th inning, I had to go get my helmet ice cream. I have a mini helmet from almost every ballpark we've been too (only missing Progressive Field in Cleveland). It's a cute little souvenir I like to get.

My guy Deduno pitched 7 scoreless innings and the Twins won 4-0! Swarzak pitched the 9th.

It was a beautiful afternoon for baseball, and a great game if you were a Twins fan! We got really lucky and went to the two games they won out of the four game series; they lost the other two.

We left Safeco around 4:30 and took the bus back to our hotel.

Adam stopped at his favorite drugstore for a beer, and I got some candy to snack on. Then we went up to the room to relax before our dinner date in the evening.
