Weekend Recap: End is in Sight (Kind of, but not really)

I've skipped Day 6 (Thursday). Just picture the usual; us in the basement, wearing the same clothes, painting the fronts of the cabinets. At least it only took an hour or so.

Friday marked Day 7. Adam ran a bunch of errands after work including picking up some Waterlox and then our butcher block counters at Ikea along with the chandelier. He said he felt super masculine purchasing that.

Adam had already started when I got home.
Day 7:
1. Carry up the freshly painted cabinet faces. Re-attach to doors.

2. Admire how pretty they look. Realize we still have the entire lower section to do. #@%&!

3. Empty the drawers in the lower cabinets. Place everything in paper bags on the ornamental couch.
Good luck finding anything in THAT mess!
 4. Carry the drawers downstairs.

5. Take off the lower cabinet door faces and carry downstairs.
Chester was so helpful.
 6. Sand/degloss the cabinets while Stef and Chester go for a walk to escape the fumes.

Then we took a break to go to a benefit/birthday for our friend's brother-in-law who has PSC. It was a lot of fun.

Us with Alan and Laura
Back at home around 10, Adam went to bed because he was going into work for a few hours each morning this weekend. But I soldiered on...

7. Wood putty all the cracks and spaces in the lower cabinets.

Saturday
Day 8:
We slept in (okay, Chester and I slept in and Adam went back to sleep for a bit when he got home). Then, we started on our kitchen project right away. Just what I wanted to do all weekend...

1. Sand the wood putty on the lower cabinets. I may or may not have gone a little crazy with it this time, so it was thick, and took a while to sand. Adam was not impressed.

2. Prime cabinets.

3. Go downstairs and prime the drawer faces and sides along with the cabinet door backs and sides. Appreciate what a crappy job the previous cabinet painter's did.

Bottom of the drawer unpainted - really?
4. Eat lunch. Return downstairs and prime the cabinet door fronts.

5. Paint coat #1 on cabinets upstairs.

 6. Paint coat #1 on drawer faces & sides, cabinet door backs & sides.

This was all followed by an amazing family nap.

That evening we met up with some of Adam's friends for a birthday party at a bowling alley for an hour or so. We didn't bowl though.

Sunday
Day 9:
1. Mark holes for hardware. Somehow manage to mess up even though I had a template. Luckily, caught in time. Erase marks and start over. I can't be trusted with such things.

2. Drill holes for hardware in upper cabinets and install. Step back and admire how it actually looks like a kitchen now. Question why we didn't do this sooner.

3. Install pretty new chandelier. Marvel at how much light it lets off. Decide it might need a dimmer for when we're doing dishes.

Light that was there.
Also - Who painted that grey?!? BUSTED
It'll look much better when the scallops are replaced by an arch
Enjoy first beer in 2 weeks - very well deserved. (Adam was on an alcohol strike)

4. Paint coat #2 on lower cabinets upstairs.

5. Go downstairs into the cold. Paint coat #2 on drawer faces & sides, cabinet backs & sides.

Then we took showers that were luckily quite warm. Followed by making guac (Adam) and cucumber-rotel salsa (Stef) for the SuperBowl at Adam's parents.

We went over there around 5 pm. It was nice to get away from the chaos of our kitchen/basement/dining room/house.

Super Bowl exhaustion
 Are we done yet? Seriously...

I would also like to note our latest casualty - paint or primer on my point and shoot camera. SEE THE SACRIFICES I MAKE FOR THIS BLOG?!
