Weekend Recap: New Year's Weekend

Happy 2012! I have an affinity for even numbers, so I'm glad to be back with an even year. I'm a weirdo. I'll have various New Years-y posts this week, but first I must recap our weekend.

Some started the New Year's weekend a little earlier than most. Lucky Adam had Friday off. I was not so fortunate. He spent the whole day, as in 7 am - 5:30 pm, ice fishing with a work friend. He had a blast and said they caught 100 sunfish between the two of them. He saved a few, and we had some yummy pan fish for dinner!

The highlight of his day was pulling this Northern out of the ice.
I may have hijacked this photo off his facebook since Adam doesn't comply and take photos for me to blog
That night we worked on and finished our latest addiction, a 1000 piece puzzle.

Saturday Adam was promised to me. I had the grand idea that we should start looking at kitchen updating stuff. But first, we needed to eat, so we stopped at Rusty Taco in St. Paul. It's located next to Trader Joe's, yuppie hipster central according to Adam, so of course we had to stop in there too. It was painful for him, but he made it through and was rewarded by me with a yummy taco-y lunch. We split chips and guac (which was ok). I had the #7 Fish Taco, grilled along with a vegetarian taco with beans, cheese and toasted pumpkin seeds. Both were good, but I was raving about the fish taco. Adam also had the fish taco along with a roasted pork taco and a brisket taco. He enjoyed all three but definitely preferred the fish taco. Yum! It was our first time there and I'm sure we'll be back. It's kind of overpriced for such small portions though and Adam walked out still hungry. Poor guy.

Next on the fun list was Ikea! There we looked at butcher block counter tops, lights, fixtures, faucets, picture frames, mirrors and much much more. Poor Adam. We left with quite a few items for projects around the house. I'm excited!

As if that wasn't enough, Home Depot was up next. Adam got to look at tools there so he was happy. We also looked at hardware, lights, faucets, backsplash tiles, paint colors and picked up some samples. I'm really excited about the white subway tile sample we picked up. I want to redo the kitchen SO. BAD.

But the day of shopping wasn't yet over - we had to pick up a few supplies at Cub Foods and then braved Mall of America. We spent more time looking for a parking spot than actually inside Macy's. It was so frustrating! We didn't even go into the rest of the mall. Good thing because we both kind of hate it.

Back at home I convinced Adam it was a good idea to put up the new mirror in our bedroom

BEFORE:

Pocket doors made this a little tricky...
AFTER:
A full length mirror? Wow. Now I can finally see how my outfit looks
AND the new wall hangings behind the bed. I was feeling pretty ambitious for someone that just stood there and watched.

BEFORE:

We have really high ceilings, so this was pretty tricky for Adam

AFTER:
With just the curtain up
With the curtain panels
I LOVE how it turned out and can't stop looking at it. Our bedroom was so boring before.

However, there was one household member not impressed with all of our bedroom projects.

So. Bored. Must chew. on drawstrings.
Then we made a big dinner together which was a lot of fun. I'll probably share more details for Foodie Friday so I don't want to give anything away, but it was festive (champagne risotto anyone?) and yummy!

We didn't have the most exciting New Year's Eve in the traditional sense since we stayed home. But with a bottle of champagne and another of prosecco, we had a fun time and got to spend the evening with Chester. Okay, so maybe we watched the ball drop live in New York and then went to bed before it was even midnight central time. So what. We're getting old!

Sunday was a sleep in day. And it was glorious. Then we went over to Adam's parents to watch the Vikings game with them. We had smoked pork nachos for lunch which were delicious. I seriously ate way too much. The Vikings lost of course which in this case was a good thing. I was getting pretty annoyed when they looked like they might win. The #3 draft pick is so much better than #6. Seriously. If we're going to have a junk season why not get something for it?!? Note to Vikings - #2 would have been way better though so thanks for winning last week. Idiots.

On Monday I was sad it was the last day of the weekend. Adam got up and went ice fishing with a friend until 1 or so. Pug and I hung out and I also ran a few errands. Then we had a lazy evening at home together. It was nice to be home for a long weekend for once.

Happy New Year! Adam and I decided that 2011 was a pretty darn good year for us, but we hope 2012 is just as good if not better.

P.S. Sorry I failed at taking pictures this weekend and really have nothing to share other than our little house projects.
