Day 2 of early Foodie Friday brings us to Meritage in downtown St. Paul. We went with Adam's parents and brother to celebrate his birthday on Sunday night. It was excellent of course!
Adam started with an Oyster Bloody Mary Shooter followed by a large crock of French Onion soup. The one bite I had was very flavorful.
I went for the "Recession Sunday" 3-course Prix Fixe meal. They also have excellent drink specials on Sunday nights.
My first course was a salad with pickled beets. I also got a Foie Gras Macaroon which you can see on the right side. It was really creamy and delicious. I shared half with Adam.

My main was a Carbonara with bucatini (like spaghetti but with a hole through the middle) and pork belly. It was very flavorful and just the perfect size for me (but probably wouldn't have been for Adam).

Adam's main course was a Cassoulet (Ragoƻt of tarbais beans, garlic sausage, pork & duck confit). It was not my thing, but he really enjoyed it. It's not often when we eat out that he doesn't finish his whole plate! It was a very hearty meal.

Adam received a little chocolate covered ice cream lollipop for being the birthday boy. I had a very good dessert of French Toast with vanilla bean ice cream, caramel and sunflower seeds as part of my meal. The caramel covered seeds were awesome.

We love Meritage!
