The Painted Hutch Chronicles

The work on our hutch has continued throughout the week. As always seems to be the case, this was a much bigger project than we anticipated!

On Tuesday, we put the second coat of white paint on.

On Wednesday, when we put the upper cabinet onto the lower, there was a weird pink reflection on the countertop. This was because the bottom of the upper cabinet was still painted barn red. UGHHHH. So it needed to come down. But first, I placed my paint samples on it and decided on a color. I ended up picking Martha Stewart's Artesian Rain. It's pretty light, but I didn't want anything to loud.
See how it's dark in the middle still?

Then we flipped the lower part over over, and I painted it white.

Then we painted the interior of the lower cabinet white.

On Thursday, we ran to Home Depot after work to pick up some supplies; an aqua paint sample mini jar (since we didn't need much), mini-roller and tray, and some brackets and fasteners.

Back at home, Adam attached the brackets while I made dinner. Since the upper part of the cabinet just sits on top of the lower, we wanted to make sure it was extra secure and wouldn't fall down on us or little Chester. I felt much better once these were on!

Note: We didn't paint the back because the wood was rough and it will be up against the wall anyway!

After dinner, I proceeded to paint the very back of the upper cabinets.

I thought this would be a quick job. It wasn't. 2 1/2 hours later I was done.

The recessed lines of the beadboard were my undoing. I just couldn't get in there with the regular brush or roller. I ended up going upstairs and digging through my art supplies to find a paint brush that would work. It made it much easier, but was quite tedious!

I also didn't have any painters tape (which I was planning on using), so I had to be extra careful with all the corners and edges. It worked out fine, but again, took longer than anticipated.

I think it turned out great though! Now all that's left is to put the doors back on and do a few touch-ups. Then it will finally be ready to put stuff in it! I'll have the full reveal next week!

I already have my next project in mind -

Don't you think Chester needs this? Especially now that we're going to liberate him and give him free reign of the kitchen (since I don't want his giant pen in my kitchen anymore...)?
