Friday after work I ran a few errands to get some supplies for a project I'm working on, and then picked Adam up at work. At home, we enjoyed the lovely evening by sitting out on the patio with drinks + the pug. Adam grilled some delicious BBQ turkey burgers.
Later, I read some of my Game of Thrones book - A Dance with Dragons, and then stayed up until midnight working on a project (which I'll share in a few weeks).
I rejoiced in being able to sleep in Saturday morning thanks to Adam getting up with Chester. Of course Chester found his way back in bed to snuggle with me after his morning stroll and breakfast. I love that little guy!
At noon, we left the house and began our errands. Our first stop (of 10) was at the Farmer's Market. There Adam picked out a flower for his mom for Mother's Day. He picked this really pretty red dahlia.

I liked it so much that I got a pink one for myself! Then we quick stopped home (stop #2) to drop the flowers off in the garage. I could hear Chester barking in the house which pretty much broke my heart. Poor lonely little guy.
Then our real quest began - the hunt for patio furniture. Our existing stuff was a hand-me-down from my parents and was never really meant to be a permanent patio set. It's worked well for us the past few years, but the chairs are falling apart and we just need something better.
Stop #3 was Dock86. But we didn't see anything we liked there for what we wanted to pay (not much). Stops #4-8 consisted of a thrift store (just for fun), Menards (where I found shiny black rain boots!), Fleet Farm, Dickie's (lunch - BBQ), and Target. There were a few patio furniture contenders at each, but I wasn't finding anything I really liked. The table part was easy - the chairs, not so much. We really wanted the rocking kind, but we weren't really loving the price for them ($100 per chair at least).
Then we went to Home Depot (#9), which was our back-up as we had run there over lunch earlier in the week and found a really cheap table + (stationary) chairs that we were okay with. We were all set to just get those until we saw this Martha Stewart set. It was comfortable. It was kind of cute. There were rocking chairs. The price didn't make me feel ill. I was sold. Except the only person working in that department was busy with other customers. So we waited. And waited some more. I grew impatient so looked up the stock on Adam's phone and discovered there was only 1 set at that store. The floor model. Away we went to the next nearest Home Depot with 3 in stock (after a quick stop at Jo-Ann #10). Finally we arrived at our 10th and final stop. We found. We bought. We conquered.
Until the stupid table wouldn't fit in the Terrain. Argh. The helpful Home Depot staff + Adam tried it multiple ways. It just was not going to fit. But then they took it out of the box, and it miraculously fit in the back seat. What a relief!
We got it home, and Adam started putting it together right away. I helped where I could, and Chester enjoyed running around outside and biting at the cardboard. It took a while, but it was worth it. Saturday was a cold blustery day though so we didn't have the opportunity to sit out and enjoy it.
That night, we watched Silver Linings Playbook (pretty bad) and relaxed.
On Mother's Day, Adam let me sleep in and then gave me a card from Chester. I am his puppy mom after all!
It ended up being a beautiful day which was a good thing as we had a lot of yard work to do. Adam raked, blew off the patio, and mowed the lawn for the first time this season. I did some weeding of the flower bed, patio and side garden before tackling the jungle behind our garage. Vines have taken it over. We usually just ignore it, but I have big plans for this space so I'm determined to make it vine free. I worked on it for a while, and it's still a mess, but I got a lot done. And I have the scratches all over my arm to prove it!!!
After all that hard work, we deserved a break so we enjoyed some cold beverages on our new patio set. It was delightful.
I also took a few photos of the lovely flowers growing in the front yard,
and Adam took Chester for a little run to burn off some energy.
At 4:30, we went over to Adam's parents house to celebrate Mother's Day! As always we had delicious food (grilled shrimp + asparagus + risotto) and good company. They even liked the Sriracha caramel corn I made Saturday night and brought over.
