The weekend before last, Adam
went ice fishing Saturday morning, and then we met up with my cousins
Kasey and Jesse along with their niece Kaylee. We had dinner together at
Joe's Crab Shack, and then went back to their hotel for some pool time.
I'm a sucker for hot tubs in the winter! It was a lot of fun to see
them and visit.
Last weekend, we celebrated Adam's
birthday. He turned 29 on Tuesday with a low key night at home. I made
chicken pot pie, we watched a movie, and opened presents.Chester and I gave him a pair of Wild tickets, and an expansion pack for Cards Against Humanity (it hadn't arrived yet, so it was more of an IOU).
Friday night we had friends over. It was a smaller crowd than usual, but still a lot of fun and allowed us a chance to spend time with everyone. For food, we made hot artichoke jalepeno dip, French onion dip, hot buffalo chicken dip, and veggies and dip. Laura brought a delicious bean salsa dip, and everyone generously brought some beer. I also made hot apple cider which was delicious, especially paired with a bit of brandy.
We all sat down and played a giant game of Cards Against Humanity which was a lot of fun. One of my favorite (appropriate) combinations was
We had a wonderful four-course meal and bottle of wine. It was tasty, fun and very filling. So. much. food.
First course was whole grain creamy lobster mac and Gruyere. It was delicious and probably my favorite course!
Second course was an heirloom tomato salad topped with a ten-year-old balsamic vinaigrette, Vidalia onions, and grilled prawn.
The third course was steak au poivre on a bed of pomme frites with a peppercorn cognac sauce. The peppercorns had been soaked for 30 days, so they were edible.
The final course, dessert, was a triple layer mousse chocolate cake - a layer of white chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate over a piece of chocolate cake and topped with chocolate ganache. It was so rich I couldn't even finish it!
Happy Birthday Adam!
