Our weekend was pretty relaxed and unexciting. We have free movie channels for a few months from DirecTV so we watched 5 movies. Oh yes, we were big bums. Though, I should speak for myself as Adam worked both mornings. I had a headache off and on all weekend, so I wasn’t feeling very motivated. Plus, it was too cold to do any yard work anyway. Sometimes you just have to take advantage of not having any plans and relax on the weekend.
Saturday afternoon we ventured out to run a few errands. First was Gander Mountain so Adam could get line put on his new fishing pole and look at lures. He’s really excited for fishing this year! Next was PetSmart to pick up a collar for Obedience for Chester. I’m still not really into it though. There we also found some Blue Buffalo soft treats that should work well for training. I also saw the CUTEST yellow ducky rain jacket. I should have just bought it. I could picture Chester in it. Last was dinner at a Mexican restaurant.
Being that I really didn’t enjoy it or the experience, I don’t want to reference it by name. It was a restaurant that I had bought a LivingSocial deal for, and thought we’d give it a try. We always like trying new places and it had good reviews online. It was in West St. Paul, but in a sketchy area. We had to walk around the whole building to find an unlocked door in, which was a back door. When we walked in at around 7:30 pm, everyone in the bar area stared at us. I noticed pull tabs strewn all over the floor… classy.
We walked through to the back “restaurant” and seated ourselves. The restaurant area was very dark and rundown looking. If I hadn’t had this certificate I needed to use, we probably would have left.
The waitress seemed nice enough, but she didn’t really talk to us at all. The only other people in the restaurant section when we arrived were a group of about 6 adults with 2 kids. While they were there, they were swearing, shouting, standing on chairs, and just making a big scene. It was REALLY uncomfortable. When they finally left, it was much nicer and less scary to be there. Our food was okay, nothing extraordinary. Along with chips and salsa, we had some shrimp ceviche on a tostada to start. That was probably the best and most flavorful thing we had. I ordered cheese enchiladas, and Adam had beef fajitas. My enchiladas were completely covered in shredded iceberg lettuce. It was like a salad on top. Did I mention that I hate iceberg? So I had to scrape that off. It was really strange. Adam said his food was good, but not anything he couldn’t make at home. I definitely would NEVER go back or recommend it to anyone. This may sound silly, but I made sure to pay our remaining balance and tip with cash, not my credit card. I just did not trust this place with that kind of information… It was very disappointing.
Sunday was just for being lazy. Chester and I snuggled and napped on the couch. We made risotto for dinner which was really good. Then we watched our shows – America's Next Great Restaurant and Desperate Housewives. We were bummed that Soul Daddy was the winner over The Brooklyn Meatball Company or even Spice Coast. Soul Daddy was the restaurant concept we were least excited about. There’s one opening in the Mall of America, and we were really looking forward to trying out the winner. But soul food? No thanks.
